Hi Huge Lunatic - yes I know that Windows hasn't updated the games files. What it looks like it's done is changed the location/calculation of the texture memory, so that the game no longer can calculate it, and it is being set to 32.

So what I'm doing is adapting the game file so that it doesn't care that it can't calculate it.

Fansee - Perfect!

Celebrate Kiri I would like report success, in screen size (OMG! I can see again), shadows, smooth edges (BTW what should that be set at, Less or More?) but no refresh rate.

Also noticed I now have ugly trees showing when I go into a lot, went into 'Game Options' and tried to change it but nothing in the 'Lot View Options' is working. I am unable to toggle the View Distance, Neighbors and Decorations, I can toggle Clickable Neighbors and Fade Distance but nothing changes when I go back into lots. At this stage it looks like everything else is back to normal, thank you.

I'm not sure if this is related or not but I noticed that my text was appearing blurry on web pages using Firefox so I did some research and apparently there was a Windows update a few days ago that deals specifically with graphics and rendering.

Hi Xander - it's that update that we think is causing the problem.

Michelle - Trace says you are now in the High Screen Res/ Hi Mem/Hi CPU zone so that should have everything on. For Anti-aliasing More is better.

Kiri: Hi Mem Hi cpu Hi maxVertexProgramVersionHWMajor ge 1
Kiri: fullscreenfadeEffect off
Kiri: fullscreenfadeEffect on due to texmem ge 128 and not integrated
Kiri: Hi Screen Res due to maxVertexProgramVersionHWMajor ge 1 and texmem ge 128

So what we need to do is take your original graphics rule.sgr and put the change in it (similiar to what Fansee did). You can do it yourself, or you can upload it here, and I can do it for you.

Nope, Kiri, sorry the Jon file you sent me crashed the game again at startup saying I didn't have a Direct X compatible graphics card.

Hummm sorry about that Jon. I think I must have used the wrong base. Sad Can you load me up your original file?

Michelle. Upload your graphic rules.sgr and I will fix it for you.

Thanks Kiri, every time I try to alter something in a .sgr file, I get a message 'Access is denied'.

The files you sent before should they have been put in Config or CSConfig?

OOPS! I just went back and re-read what you said to do, I put them in C: Program Files (x86)/EA GAMES/TheSims2Mansions and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Config.

I tried a few different application-specific settings for TS2 on my graphics card, in AMD Catalyst. I really wanted Morphological filtering (post-process anti-aliasing applied to the entire screen) to deliver adequate results but it didn't. However, multisample anti-aliasing via Catalyst showed better performance than letting the game do its own anti-aliasing (I read older games just use supersampling, which is the highest quality but most taxing anti-aliasing option, so I'm guessing the multisampling mode makes the difference.)

Here's how my current settings look:

What version of Windows had the troublesome update? Do 7 users need to avoid updating? I haven't been harassed about it yet.
