Recognising Newer Graphics Cards for Sims2
#111 09-08-2013
Milk - if you post up your config-log.txt that will tell us if you have any problems we need to fix.

Montosaurous - they've taken off everything else. It's unlikely that Sims2 will ever be offered on Origin.

Also as I said previously, the texture memory is not the only problem, because there is specific coding in the graphic rules.sgr that can cause problems for other cards - for Intel, Radeon and NVidia. There is also coding in the graphics rules.sgr that is dependant on whether the card is found or not - so while it doesn't appear to do anything to you, it does. If nothing else, it ensures that the card is treated as hardware rendering rather than software rendering.

The log looks like everything is ok. What particularly is the problem, Milk?

Montosaurous - quoted for emphasis:

"There is also coding in the graphics rules.sgr that is dependant on whether the card is found or not - so while it doesn't appear to do anything to you, it does. If nothing else, it ensures that the card is treated as hardware rendering rather than software rendering. "

How it knows whether the card is found or not is based on whether the card is in the video cards.sgr

Nothing is the problem, I used your files, but added my card (with a hex id I think I researched a while back) to the list, assuming the cards were close enough and from the same manufacturer and so it should work, which it did beautifully. You just wanted to see the log file so I obliged and I'm glad for the confirmation that all is working as it should!

Ok, and that is enough - Montosaurus, you are welcome to visit and participate on this site. You have been asked at least twice to STOP arguing on this topic and effectively derailing this topic. If you want to start your own topic you can.

If you post in this topic again I will ban you.

Thanks.

Thanks for this topic. Finally the game recognises my HD 7900 properly Smile Only issue is that if I use high shadows in the game my sims have weird black square shadows whenever they're in house. (If they're outside there are no shadows under them at all). Could it be a catalyst issue? My config log shows "uintProp antialiasingSupport 1" istead of 3. Does this have anything to do with the shadow issue?

(If anything, I'm on Windows 8.1 preview)

Shadows greyed out, and set to high, is a side-product of being in the high-resolution. That's what mine is like as well.
If you want to change the shadows to a lower setting, you can - How you do that:

Go into your game folder, into the Config folder for your game. You will see a number of things including a file called
userProps.xml.

Open that up with edit, and look for
<AnyUint32 type="0xeb61e4f7" key="optionShadows">3</AnyUint32>

Change the 3, to 1 or 2 depending on whether you want low or medium definition shadows.

Yes, with medium shadows the problem doesn't exist. (I could change them in game actually, thanks Smile )

Although I've tried putting everything back to low (even the resolution to 800x600) except shadows, but the issue was still there... It's probably something else not just the game being in hires :/

You're getting square shadows inside? Sorry - I misunderstood your question and thought it was just a greyed out thing.

Hi-res isn't set by the user props, it's set by the Graphic Rules.sgr and is a function of a number of things.

Could you post up your -config-log.txt that you get from your log folder in the game? I'd be interested to see what's happening.
