Hi Andrew.

You do have one problem in your config-log. Anti-aliasing support is set to 3 for a Radeon. 3 is the setting for an NVidia with AppControlledAA. All other cards need to have Anti-aliasing support set to 1.

So my guess is that is that it's trying to use AppControlledAA with a card that doesn't have it.

My version of Graphic Rules.sgr doesn't have the ability to set Radeon Anti-aliasing support to 3. Could you send me your version so I can see how it got there? Thanks.

(Graphic Rules.sgr is found in your Program Files in The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Config\)

Thanks very much for your time I really appreciate it Smile

I've uploaded the sgr to here.

It's basically your sgr that I downloaded earlier and changed the "uintProp antialiasingSupport" value from 1 to 3 because I though that might fix the problem (sadly not). I've just tried deleting my card info from "Video Cards.sgr" (= disabling hardware rendering) but it still looked like the attached screenshot.

Do you have an untouched "Graphics Rules.sgr" by any chance?

Yup, for a completely untouched one - you do as well - every expansion pack has a config and CSConfig folder in the same relative folder Apartment Life (or other expansion pack)\TSData\Res\Config

For another copy of mine is : Download Graphic Rules for AMD Radeon 7800

Tried using an untouched one but got the same problem... must be something else then. Either a driver issue or a missing file (perhaps missing directx library?).

When was the last time you updated your graphics driver?

To be honest, this one is out of my realm of expertise - I can give you guesses but I don't know what else to do.

A few weeks ago but it's a beta driver (13.8) so wouldn't be surprised if that caused the problem... I think the best to do is trying the game on an other computer (different GPU different OS). If it doesn't have the bug then it's driver/directx/etc otherwise something is wrong with the game files and I need to do a reinstall.

At least now I know that it's not my graphics settings for sure Smile

That is very true. It's definitely not your graphics settings.

Hi, i'm having the same problem as previously described, i recently just installed the sims 2 on my computer but it will only run in 800x600, i tried doing what was describes earlier in this thread with no results.

so.. in short, what to do?

i'm not really this technical guy, so i think i'd better call the pros for aid, it's so fkn annoying to run in 800-600 when you have a brand new laptop with 1600-900 resolution, lol.

I dunno if this will help you, but here is a copy of my rules. I had the same issues when I reinstalled sims 2 on the box I built. However, I built my box about two years ago so my specs will most likely be way lower than yours. Nevertheless my monitor is 1920x1080 and I too got restricted to 800x600 before I updated my rules.

FYI: My motherboard is an Asus P8Z68-VLE and the graphics card I installed is Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti.

Here is the link that I used to help me fix my graphics: http://simonhampel.com/the-sims-2-resolu...ms-solved/

If you open my file up alongside yours in notepad or vim and do a search for: option ScreenModeResolution you should be able to compare and edit your file to suit your needs (of course use the resolutions that work for you since we have different monitors!)

Hope this helps, if it doesn't x___x sorry, it worked for me.
