Recognising Newer Graphics Cards for Sims2
#161 14-11-2013
A quick look at your config log says that the fix did take, and the anti-aliasing and bump maps, texture detail, and etc are all enabled and on high.

I'll do a more in-depth look at it and see if I can see anything else that might be jumping out at me. Get back to you about that in a bit.

I'm still having the same problems as Alexgero17 (everything set to high but looks like it's set to low) and nothing I've tried so far has worked. Sad

Is it possible for the game to be using my NVIDIA card even if the config-log says it's using Intel? Because when I fiddle with settings in the NVIDIA control panel it seems to make a (very) slight difference to how the game looks. Or is that just wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking I think.

Unfortunately I'm limited to modifying the graphics in the game to the graphic rules.sgr

I don't know enough to know how to determine what to do when you have two graphic cards. I believe it is possible to set the NVIDIA card to be used for the game - but it has to be done from the NVidia panel, it's not a decision that the game makes. It's one of those things that the game is given - and the graphic rules decides HOW to use it. It doesn't decide WHAT to use.

With Alex's card - from what I can see is that the texture/resolution is actually at High and to be honest, the images that he has put up there are not definitive - because unfortunately it's not always obvious when it's high or low. That's why I use the coast line to determine it. It's very obvious there.

Often with furniture that has been recoloured - it can actually just be that the quality of the recolour is low.

What I'm not understanding is how the resolution is changing in game. The graphic rules are set up once at the beginning, and not recalculated. My gut feel is that it's something to do with LIF0 and TXTR images on the objects but I haven't found anything else about it to make it clear.

Aw nuts. I've set NVIDIA as the default card for the game in the NVIDIA control panel but that hasn't seemed to stop it using Intel automatically for some reason Sad

And my settings in game definitely say 'high' but yeah, the coast is awful and blocky. I will post screenshots in a minute.

UPDATE: Pictures!

This is the waterline in my hood when zoomed out

It gets smoother when I zoom in but it's still awful (and no reflections)

However, I do get reflections when I load a lot (as shown by this masterful photo of a mirror in a corner)

Here's a Sim close-up

And the graphics settings

Here's my hood on my old computer (edited and with a custom sky but you can see I had beaches and reflective water)

And here it is on my new one

Perhaps you could give this fix a try.

yea, but if the hood is using the Intel Graphics then that is gonna kill the intel card.

The problem is that the computer is using the wrong card for sims.

Thanks eefje00704, I'll give that a try!

Leefish, do you have any idea how I can force the game to use the correct card? I've gone to the NVIDIA control panel and set the game to run with it. In fact, I set the NVIDIA as being the default card for everything in an attempt to get it to work but it still seems to run with Intel. I don't know what else to try?

Maybe this:

Its about simcity, but it might also be an option for your Sims2 game.

eefje00704 - that might help alex, but it's not going to help toofasttoofar - it's likely to fry his intel card.

I would definitely try Lee's link.
