Sims2 Ultimate Collection

Yeah I have a different theory. Sims 2 is a bit glitchy on most PCs nowadays. You need to fix the graphics rules to get it to display properly or else the resolution is wrong and smooth edges don't work and shadows are broken and who knows what else (oh hey kiri knows what else) Tongue ....... so I'm thinking they offer Sims 2. People play and go "it's cool but what's with it displaying so poorly, is there an update?" They look and see the update is Sims 4. They think "oooh new shiny upgrade" and are tricked into paying $60-$100 for an inferior game.

Yes, I had thought that initially when they required us to register our codes, but then they just started giving the game away to everyone... I don't remember them doing that for TS1 and I own the complete collection version as well as the base game. That is why I think there is more to just wanting to bring everyone's versions up to date.

@fanseelamb that is a very sound theory... get a bunch of folks whinging about TS2 and don't let them remember when the game worked fine on the PCs they were designed for (Windows ME was included on this list for crying out loud!) but now with all the Graphics issues it might very well make them think that TS2 is no good... very clever, EA. Thank goodness that there are still a bunch of graphics cards that work with this game! And since it works with 8.1 now... that means another 4 years of awesome.

@nanashi - Is the Origin version only supported for 4 years? I must have missed that, although maybe 4 years from now the graphics issues will no longer be solvable anyway.

I agree. I've been waiting for the Sims equivalent of the Sims 1 Complete Collection, since reinstalling the game is a real pain. My guess is that as each game reaches the end of its support life, then the large collection will come out. Ginnie

I don't think that's what Nanashi meant. It's probably about 4 years before Window 8 is going to be replaced. And what happens with the game then, depends on what the new OS will do to it.

That's exactly what I meant, BO, thanks! I was talking about the predicted life cycle of the OS, not the game Smile

Edit: That said, provided they do not change the file system then the game may very well be able to continue to the next OS.

I had to refresh my PC recently (because I did something dumb, doh) so I loaded up the UC today. I'm thinking they did at least alter some of either the graphics rules or the video card list, since the UC version allowed me to use high-res settings when the normal discs wouldn't. I will still need to pop in and fix the resolution (they stop at 1600x1200) and apply the Windows 8 graphic driver shadow fix, of course.

Required it gratis with code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS Big Grin then I'll reinstall game, when I do format to PC.

I have the game on Origin in "My Games", I can download it also after July 31, right?
