Hi there, I don't know how old this thread is but thought id give it a try anyway. I have a new ASUS X553M laptop with Windows 8.1, and the 4 cd version if the Sims 2 basegame, university, nightlife and seasons. I installed the base game no problem.
However, I hit problems like many other simmers, when it came to installing the expansions. So, i followed tutorials online and managed to manually install all 3 expansions of mine successfully. The game will play fine, until I hit the CAS bodyshop button, and halfway through the loading menu it will terminate.
I have tried running it (seasons is the most recent EP) in various compatibility modes and as an administrator but the same problem happens.
Also followed the steps above to the best of my ability and copied and saved my old config-log elsewhere and then downloaded the Intel file to replaced it.
I dont have an extra graphics card to go with the laptop, so dont know if thats the problem.
Any advice will help- could the problem be that I installed the base game like an other computer game but had to do the EPs manually to get around the launcher issue?
I am very close to uninstalling everything and going right back and MANUALLY installing the basegame as well as the EPs to see if it helps! x

@britnolan23 You need to find a program like winzip or WinRar (type either of these terms into the Google search bar, and the right location for such programs will be pointed out to you) . Once one of those programs is installed, your computer will know exactly what to do with .zip and .rar files, and unpack them. If you succeeded in installing a complete set of Sims 2, then getting one of these unpacking programs should be childs play, believe me. I have full confidence in your ability to do it.

Hi Kiri -
I just wanted you to know - since I've had my new computer and Windows 8 I haven't been able to play my Sims 2. I've had this computer for about 6 months. I've tried every blog, help site, chat site - everything to no avail.
I came here, read your instructions, followed them and am HAPPY TO SAY "I CAN PLAY MY SIMS!!!"
Thank you so much - YOU are an angel.
Blessings & a Great Day,
Romarie

Oh gosh, I've had a lot of problems with this for quite some time. Okay so let me give a basic rundown of my situation.
TS2 Ultimate Collection was working perfectly fine on my laptop running Windows 8, until I broke my laptop screen and had to work off my Cintiq 22HD. Had that hooked up with DVI to HDMI converter, not sure if that makes any difference.
As soon as I tried to play TS2 on my Cintiq, I got the flashing water and flickering land graphical errors so I came here looking to fix it. First, I followed all the basic fixes in the main post. After I did this, I loaded my game to see if it worked and this happened:
Turned my game into a rave city basically. Flashing pink everywhere. So, I nabbed the graphics rules maker and tried to use that to fix it because I do have an AMD 7000 series card. No matter what I did with the graphics rules maker, it would not add my card to the video cards list. It would tell me it was added, I would close, then relaunch the program to check and it still said my card wasn't added.
So, I tried to manually add it, launched TS2, and it threw this error at me:
So, that's where I decided this issue was something I probably needed to personally come here and ask about. My config log is attached, and I don't know if this is common or not, but running TS2 has always made a second iteration of my EA games folder that includes only an empty "The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection" folder inside of it.
If I delete it, it pops up again after I run the game.
I've been wanting to play Sims for ages, so I would super appreciate any help in fixing this issue! It's gotten a bit over my head by now.
I think mainly the weird thing is that it was working completely normally before I tried to play it using my Cintiq as the display.

Hi there! First off I would like to thank you for posting your tutorials on here. Thanks to you, I am now able to play The Sims 2 with all of the expansion packs on my Windows 8.1 PC with the right resolution! I have been playing with no problems so far, but I just noticed something in my game, and I hope you can help. When I used to play Sims on my old PC, I enabled the shaders so that my pool can have a proper reflection as well as see the fish in ponds and pools. So when I realized my pools had no reflections on my new PC, I enabled the shaders again but nothing happened. The reflections on mirrors work, and I can see the fish in the tanks just fine ( i haven't checked ponds yet, but the koi pond works fine). I have my graphics on high and the reflections is checked to on in the game. I tried your tutorial on making the game recognize my card but I kept getting a DirectX error everytime I tried to start the game. So now I am at a loss. I hope you can help me get my pretty pools back. Thanks!
P.S. I have a AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series Graphic Card

Ah, waiting is perfectly fine for me!! It would be incredibly rude of me to be angry about having to wait for help you provide out of kindness and not requirement. Thank you so much for all the resources you've provided here already.

Take all the time you need! I appreciate you considering my problem. I hope you get up and running soon. I know what it's like to deal with P.O.S. computers lol. I can play my game to keep me busy in the meantime...I just won't fiddle around with the flat looking pools lol.
