I found it. Here you go. (By the way, I use one of Chris Hatch's unofficial EP's.)

OK - you don't have the texture memory problem - you've got the 'It's Intel so it's gotta be low graphics' problem. Your texture memory is definitely enough for high graphics, and you also have the ability to do the anti-aliasing.

I'll use your config.txt to make you up a graphics rules.sgr that you can use, I can't guarantee that it will fix it - but we can definitely give it a good try.

Edit:

Here is your Graphic Rules.sgr updated for your card - Download Graphics Card - intel

What I've done:

I've included a bit of a trace that will tell me what is going on, and I've commented out the bit of code that says that if it's Intel then make it low resolution.

What you can expect:

1. the config-log.txt that you sent me, when you start up your game, will include some text in it with the tag 'Kiri:' in the front of it. That is messages to me that let me know what it's doing.
2. You may or may not get a change in resolution - either way, let me know and send me your config-log.txt so I can check that everything is ok.
3. You may or may not get a strange error message regarding the DX. if you do, it just means that I've stuffed up some coding - let me know and I will fix it.

Where to put the new card -

It sits in the Mansions and Gardens Folder - in \The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Config\
You will also need to put it in \The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\CSConfig\

SAVE your old card just in case. (I generally add a tag of old onto it).

Someone on a topic said it might destroy my laptop if I use this, so I'm hesitant to use it, but I will try. Thank you!

The change that I put in stops the defaulting to low resolution, but it doesn't stop the setting to low or medium if your CPU speed, Texture Memory, Memory, and Vertex programming don't meet the requirements. That's part of the reason why I didn't guarantee that there would be any changes.

The graphic rules.sgr has 3 different places that it makes decisions on whether you use low, medium or high. The change I put in, stops the defaulting to low resolution in the first place. But the second place and 3rd places that it makes decisions are unchanged.

If the changes does not work at all - It will not destroy your laptop. The worst it will do is one of the two things - either it will crash the game or it will throw an error and you won't get into the game at all.- at which point you take it out and it will go back to what the problem is.

If the change does work. I will look at your config-log.txt. If I can see that there is a problem, we take it out.

If you put the change in it will not make your laptop go poof instantly. Even it is in for a short time, it will not make your laptop go poof.

However, if someone on a topic says that it will destroy your laptop and you don't want to take the risk - that's fine too. Its your laptop and your game.

The thing you need to understand is that forcing it high resolution using other methods will be giving you a higher risk of damage to your PC. I've seen other methods of forcing high resolution, and it has generally involved it being forced in the last place it makes decisions, and removing the decision at that point. This is a very bad thing to do, because if there is a problem with the setting, it will overuse your graphics card and in time cause it to burn out the graphics card.

You're very welcome. Smile

Can you upload your config-log.txt as well, so I can check to make sure it's not going to be a burden on your card?

Hi xlolitascorned.

I've had a look at your stats, and they look good as is, I can't see any problem with continuing with this graphics file. You have a decent CPU, and the graphics memory is more than adequate to maintain the high resolution.
It's been 9 years or more since we had Sims 2, and the INTEL graphics card has improved during that time. It's stats are better even than the desktop PC's from back in 2004. I think you should be fine.

If you are still worried, then I would suggest that you install a heat monitor - This is the one I use

How to use it:
start it up when you start your laptop, and get familiar with the temperatures that your laptop generates, including in other games and applications, especially ones that use a lot of graphics. Once you know the usual range, play Sims 2 and check it every so often - I generally find that 5-10 minutes is long enough for it to generate any strong temperatures if it's going to.
If the temperatures are more than 10-20C higher than with other games and applications that are similiar, then the graphics card is working harder and we'll need to tweak your graphic rules.

All applications that are graphic intensive will increase the temperature of your laptop, but there is a range of temperatures that your laptop can cope with.
