Okay guys if you have the sims 2 ultimate collection and if you mess up your game you can just go in origin and right click the sims 2 ultimate and click repair install, it will NOT delete your progress in the sims but will simply make it work again.

@Renomi
Hi Renomi - can you attach another config-log.txt so I can have a look? Also. When you put in the change - did you put it in both the Config folder and CSConfig folder? The second folder is the one that affects bodyshop and Cas.
Great to hear @Simmerfan28
Now before you fiddle with the graphic rules again - go and download the Graphic Rules Maker, and use that. It will update the right files in the right place with the things that you need.

I've gone through this entire thread and it seems there's not a conclusive solution, but I thought I would post anyway. For the most part, my game runs fairly smooth. I have smooth edges, my resolution is fine, and I used the Graphics Rules Maker to get the game to recognize my card. Unfortunately, I am having an issue with flashing purple/pink:
I also have the black box shadow of doom under my sims, but I figured that was a Nvidia driver issue and just play with shadows off now, and I am thinking the flashing purple is also a driver issue, but it's not exactly something I can 'turn off.' So I finally sought out a solution.
I run Windows 7 64-bit.

@smart_spell
The black box of doom you can fix by turning sim shadows to medium, or if you don't mind going into the graphic rules...
This from the front page:
The second easiest way to deal with this problem, is to change the graphic rules.sgr, so the SimShadow is false for High Shadows.
Look for this code in your graphic rules.sgr:
option Shadows
setting $Low
boolProp simShadows false
boolProp objectShadows false
boolProp guob false
boolProp heightMapShadows false
setting $Medium
boolProp simShadows false
boolProp objectShadows false
boolProp guob true
boolProp heightMapShadows true
setting $High
boolProp simShadows true <- change this to false
boolProp objectShadows true
boolProp guob true
boolProp heightMapShadows true
end
It is a graphics driver problem, but one that you can get around.
The pink clothes is a different sort of error.
Other folk with your card haven't had this problem that I'm aware of (we've had NVidia GTX 550 cards before).
1. I'd update the driver, and run dxdiag to make sure that everything that should be on, is on.
2. I'd also check that you're running the game as admin, and have the compatibility set back a notch - so Windows 7 -> Windows XP ServicePack 3.
Try those and come back and let me know how you go. I have some other ideas, but I'd rather go through it step-by-step with you. And those first 2 may be the answer.

I knew about the setting it to medium workaround, I just prefer to have my shadows off, but thank you.
Pink Clothes:
1. The driver is up-to-date. Just updated on the second to 340.52 (9.18.13.4052), and I have had the purple/pink flashing before I updated. And I did the dxdiag and everything is enabled that should be. No problems detected by the system.
2. I already run my game as admin and have the compatibility set back.

@smart_spell Fabulous - well what we can cross out now is that it's the graphics card/driver.
So. The next reasons why this happens is
1. You're short on RAM. Your game has 1 gig allocated to it, so depending on how much CC you have in game, you may just be overloading your RAM.
Read this article on what to look for and how to fix it
After you've done that, go in and have a look and see if it helps. If it doesn't....
2. Corruption at Hood/lot/or object level. My suspicion is that you have a corruption on a clothing object. (Because when it's a hood, there tends to be pinkness in the hood).
The way to test if that is so, is to rename your current game hood (in your my documents folder) - and let the game regenerate a vanilla game. Then without adding anything create a hood/sim and test it out to see if the pinkness occurs.
If it doesn't occur in a vanilla game - then you've got a corruption.
Start with object corruption detection - which is the old half-half method. It's a pain-in-the-neck to do - but if it's an object that's how you're going to find it.
For Hood/Lot corruption detection - try using this tool - Mootilda's HoodChecker
Do it on a COPY of your hood - there's no guarantee that it will make it playable, and having a copy means you can restore it back if you need to.
3. I don't know - Try checking the Wiki or asking EA.
If you get to point 3, and you do find a solution - let us know and we'll add it to the first post.
@thomazdittz
Thomas - if you aren't able to take a screenshot using 'Print Screen' button (and then paste it into graphics program (eg. MSPaint), try setting your game to windowed, and try again.
Your cellphone picture doesn't give me enough information (I was hoping to see the whole screen to work out what was happening - I believed you when you said it was greyed out).
Cellphone pictures will never be good enough.

Hi, I would absolutely love to jump into The Sims 2 again after getting it from EA, but I am having a really tricky time setting it up - every time I try to launch it gives me the 'Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters' error message and fails.
My OS is 8.1 and this is the log:

I have tried the Graphics Rule Maker and installing the NVIDIA fix manually, with a clean reinstall each time, and a couple of other things I found on the internet (run as admin, compatibility mode etc.).
The only thing which worked (strangely) was extending my display to my old Samsung 1600:900 screen where it booted in a small window. But this defeats the purpose of playing The Sims 2 on my modern machine and 1920x1080 screen which is what I ultimately would like to do. And I'm quite confused actually about how the screen changes anything :$
Can you pleasehelp at all?
