Huge thanks to everyone participating in this thread! This has been so helpful to me on a brand new Windows 10 computer & OS. Everything was made quite simple here too with all your comments and download links!

However I seem to have one last hurdle which I can't figure out. Quite often my game crashes due to a DirectX (I think?) error about running out of texture memory. I've tried to follow the tips by updating my Graphics Rules files (in both Config and CSConfig folders), and also using the Graphics Rules Maker program. At first my config log showed texture memory was set to 32MB, and after using the GRM program I got it to consistently say 1744MB. But it still crashes so I have tried to use the GRM program to set it to the max that it says my card can use (something over 4000MB) but that never changes in my config log anymore. In desperation I have tried the GRM program to set it to anything other than 1744MB but it never seems to "stick" in the config log and I'm not sure why or how it works really.

I used to run my quite massive game (it's gotten too big to be able to edit it in SimPE apparently) on an older laptop just fine, so I can't image a brand new PC model with a pretty good graphics card should really have such an issue. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I have tried using the graphic rules for NVIDIA and Intel missing textures, and also have used GRM, but my texture memory is still set to 32MB.

@LaurelCrossing Which game setup are you using. And can you please attach a config-log.txt.

You need to use the NVidia - missing textures. The Intel Missing textures won't help you.
When the texture memory is 32mb and you're using one of my graphic rules cards, that tells me that it's not in the right place. My cards are hard-coded to use 1744Mb

I keep trying to attach a file, but the editor is not allowing me. Maybe because I'm a new user? I'm not getting an error message, so I'm not exactly sure why I cannot add an attachment. EDIT: I got the following error: "The file upload failed. Please choose a valid file and try again. Error details: The attachment could not be found on the server."

Can I PM the log to you?

And I am using the Nvidia missing texture file, in both the config and csconfig folders:

I have ultimate collection, which I run as admin in windowed mode.

Hardly anyone ever requires more than 32MB texture memory. The numbers *you* are presently using - you even mention 4000MB - are absolutely ridiculos! It's only texture memory; no game should need such enormous textures, ever.

THAT is most likely of more concern that anything else; a game that's gotten too big for SimPE to handle, is eventually going to be too much for the game engine to work with as well. Maybe some of Mootilda's programs could clean the hood up to a point where it can be handled again. Then install my No Sim Loaded mod to get rid of superfluous or broken tokens, controllers, memories and such. Of course, you would need to make a backup copy of your hood first... just in case you need or want to return to the unabridged version.

Actually BO, 32Mb causes it to go to Low Resolution - they just need to be over 32Mb. But yeah, 1744Mb is fine. There's no point in going higher.

@LaurelCrossing - the config-log.txt is a text file yes? Textfiles are allowable. If you're picking one with a different suffix, that may be the problem.
That's definitely the right graphic rules.
Regardless, if you're still getting 32Mb in your texture file, then the problem is that the game is using a graphic rules.sgr from a different folder.
The simplest solution for this, is to put the new graphic rules.sgr in all your other expansion folders -

\Origin Games\<Change this one>\<and this one>\TSData\Res\Config\
\Origin Games\<Change this one>\<and this one>\\TSData\Res\CsConfig\

@TofuSnorlax Although it's complaining about texture memory. That isn't the problem. Please attach a config-log.txt from the log folders in your game folder so I can see if there's some other problem.

I would also follow BO's advice about reducing the game. It sounds to me that it is the size of your game, rather than the physical specs that is the problem.

You need to remember that the game is tuned to the physical specifications of around 2004-8. What that means, and things we are starting to see, is that there are game lagging and other problems because the systems are becoming too fast for the game. I know that sounds counter-intuitive but sometimes you've got to turn down the awesome for the game to be able to cope.

I'm still having difficulty attaching the file. It will just not attach:

I'll update the graphics file to every folder in the meantime.

I've replaced every file in every folder. Still low resolution. Sigh.

Ok, I am perfectly happy to admit that I don't know everything, and that 32MB may be a bit on the low side. But given that the game in general is hardly capable of handling 2GB (2048 MB) total memory, and that very few graphics cards are equipped with more than a single GB - if even that much - of graphics memory, trying to assign 1744MB (more than 1.5 GB) to texture memory seems quite a bit more than fine, and in fact rather excessive. I would think that this much memory would sooner work against the game, rather than to help.

But then, what do *I* know? I'm not entirely up-to-date anymore. Smile You're doing much better here than I could've done. Heart

With windows 8 I experienced the common problem of black boxes & glitching computer screens when running the game. Thankfully no crashes happened but the glitching was quite frustrating. I was able to solve the problem with the help of the graphics rule maker and the game worked perfectly fine. Now with the update to windows 10 my game is back to glitching, actually worse than ever & it's stuck on an 800 x 600 resolution (I have a very wide computer monitor so that is quite frustrating) and the graphics seem to be very low despite being turned up high they just still look... off? I guess would be the correct word to use. I've attached my config-log file in the hopes that someone out there can help me or may have experienced the same issue (I hope if you did you found a fix for it!) I understand that people are busy so there's really no rush to it I'm just hoping there's a way to make it work! I put the money into a new computer with the hopes of being able to play a favorite game and it just isn't working out so well!

Thank you to anyone who can / will try & help me!

If anyone could please look at my file and take a guess as to what's going on :/ I've been trying for the last week to get something to work and it just keeps getting worse it seems.
