Hi guys,
I'm searching for the graphics rules for Radeon HD 6900 series, did you made one already that I didn't see ?
Great work!

Hi Ekkii - you can use the graphic rules for the 6700/6800 that I posted for up for Alfo (I'll put it in the 1st post in a minute) it is the same for them as it is for the 6900.

Alfo - that's great! Glad to help. Big Grin

OK. Stick with that card for the moment.

Using my Google-fu - 'flickering games windows 8' - still working through it.

But one simple thing jumped out at me with this comment -
"I recently updated to Windows 8.1 and now my screen flickers when playing in fullscreen mode. In windowed mode it does not flicker. "

Have you tried Windowed mode? (Do you know how to do windowed mode?)

I exclusively play in windowed mode.

ahh. OK. Have you tried non-Windows mode then?

I don't think I have. I can check to see if it'd do me any good.

Edit: Nope. Still flickers.

At this point, I can live with the flickering, but when whole areas of the house disappear while building? That's the big nuisance.

I'm a little late to the discussion, but re Windows 8.1, Microsoft's minimum system requirements for it are pretty much wishful thinking; it takes quite a bit more than what they require to be able to run it smoothly (but of course they can't be honest and actually say that "even though you only need [this] to run it, for optimal performance we recommend that you have at least [this much more]," because then people wouldn't upgrade). I know this for a fact because it turned my notebook* into a slug with worse loading times than my mum's ten-year-old desktop, even though it had well above the required specs all across the board. So Win 8.1 takes a heavier toll of your system than M$ pretends it does.

*that shipped with Win 8 and runs it without any problems

celebkiriedhel - Thanks for the suggestion it work well, not 100% fine but I can play in full res.
Can I ask you for one more config graphics rules ? The graphics rules for an Intel HD Graphics 3000 won't work with the Intel rule you attached on the first post. Every time we select a Nhood or a house the screen goes black and we have to Alt+tab every time to get back the game. We didn't try what happens in Live mode, though.

The only reason why I even bothered to upgrade is because I use the skype app (for convenience purposes), which didn't have file-sharing support under windows 8.

@Ekkii, I have this issue too when I run the game in compatibility mode. Do you have the game in compatibility mode?

namakyori - actually no, but we just try to get in Live mode and every time the camera is rotated the game goes black. We'll try different modes and some mods in the graphics rules file.

Edit : Well just closed the game with the Radeon graphic card and I have the same problem now with this one. Is there something I'm missing ?

Edit 2 : after many trials I start to think is not an issue with the file (graphics rules.sgr), but windows 8 it self the one causing the black screens. @namakyori , is your OS windows 8 or 8.1 ?
Actually I can move in the Nhood or the live mode, but I can't use the mouse, in the instant I use it it goes on black screen and the game still running. Is like a Black Screen On Click.

I think I'm going to have to say - if you have Windows 8.1 and it's not working - then it isn't going to work. Sad If you're able to downgrade back to Windows 8, and you have no reason to be in Windows 8.1 then that's what I'd suggest.

Ekkii - can you post up a config-log.txt.

Before you post requesting help
Information we need

  1. The -config-log.txt from the Logs folder in the My Documents\EA\The Sims2\ Click "full editor" below to attach a text file.
  2. Your operating System.
  3. What the problem actually is - that will be a picture to show the problem (optional), and accompanying text files that turn up (optional), and a detailed description of what happened, and what you expected to happen.

Sorry, that is a members only option
