Hi, I followed your guide, but it didn't help me. I have a dual graphic card - intel hd graphic and NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M. My operating system is windows 8.1.
The problem is I can't create a family or start to play. I can only turn on the game and choose the neighbourhood. I've changed NVIDIA for default, run as an admin, set Compatibility and replaced Graphics Rules.sgr but the problem is still present. I also would like to mension that I had installed the sims 2 before I downloaded the sims 2 UC and everything worked correct.

Your problem, it seems to me, is not Graphics-related and should therefor have its own thread. I think.

The game doesn't work properly with both the game and the UC game installed. You'll need to uninstall both, and then choose the one you want.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not computer savvy in the slightest so I apologize if I don't know really obvious things or if I ask a lot of dumb questions.
OS is Windows 8.1, installed sims 2 and EPs in order last night and it seems to be running fine except I'm having the flickering/stuttering issue. The smooth edges option is greyed out for me so I'm unable to change it. I'm running in XP SP2 and running as admin.

@tjh327 Hi - see the link to the Graphic Rules maker? Please click on that,

Go to Graphic Rules Maker page

Once you've run that, and fixed your graphic rules, set your smooth edges to max and it will fix the stuttering. You will also get smooth edges, and a better look to your game.

Wow... That should put this thread out of work! Now people just have to DL and run a li'l proggy, which will then do everything for them automagically... How much did you have to do with the development of this incredible tool, Kiri?

Yes, I've already downloaded it but I have no idea what to do with it, I don't know if I'm supposed to force shadows or what settings I'm supposed to use. On the guide it says something about your CPU being over 3000-I have no clue. Looking at my log there is number over 3000 but I don't know if that's it or not. Now I'm unable to start the game because it says I don't have directx 9 adapters. All this stuff is greek to me that's why I was asking for help.

@BoilingOil Absolutely nothing as far as I'm aware. I'm just glad it was made. Smile

@tjh327 ok.
What I need you to do is post up your log. Click full editor, and then attach it. Once I've had a look at it, I can tell you exactly what's happening.
In the meantime to get your game running again -
go to your PROGRAM folders
C:\Program Files (X86)\EA Games\
and go to your latest expansion pack - if you have Mansion and Gardens - it will be that one.

In that folder, go to \The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Config\

You'll see Graphic Rules.sgr and whatever the backup that the Graphic Rules Maker created. Rename the Graphic Rules.sgr to something else (I generally change the sgr to old or new or broke or whatever)
And then change the name for the backup to Graphic Rules.sgr

That will get rid of your Directx9 problem.

I renamed the sgr folders, for some reason it didn't work right away, I had to try to start the game a few times before it worked. Now it loads normally, I can select a neighborhood-but the screen just goes black and doesn't do the flyover. I have to pull up the desktop, then go back into the game for the black screen to go away.

OK -
1. On the first post is a file - Graphics Rules-INTEL.rar download that one. That's going to be your new graphic rules SGR
2. You also need - Video Card for INTEL HD GRAPHICS

3. save your existing graphic rules and video cards sgr files by renaming them, then unzip these two in the same folders.
Folders are as above - but you need to do them for both -

\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Config\
\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\CSConfig\

4. Then I want you to go to where your exe is -
\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\
And change it from WinXP compatibility to Win7.
What we've found is that it needs to be set down 1, not all the way to WinXP.

That *SHOULD* fix your problem. Please come back here and let me know (and post up another log file if it didn't work)
