You don't have to zip the save folder - that's just getting everything out of the way.

Unfortunately you've also put the RARs into the save folder - which you did NOT need to do.
Can you move the rars back.

In the Config folder you should have the video card - joanne.rar and Graphic Rules- Intel.rar.

Once you've returned them there -

select each rar file, with right-click and choose extract here.

@pookie
I'll link up the files as zips for you; your system will be able to uncompress them without using any 3rd party software. Will do it soon. I'm watching the weather at the moment - maybe will need to turn off PC if the thunderstorm breaks. eta: is ok, weather hasn't broken yet.
Download pookie zip
Download this, uncompress it and put it in both your Config and your CSConfig.
Then go into you game, come out of it.
If it crashes let me know, if it doesn't crash - post up the -config-log.txt which is found in the log folder of your my documents\....\EA\The Sims 2\log\

@pmartes
OK. Your dxdiag says that you're good. So that's not your problem.
the shortcut is the one you use to get the game going.

This next bit is a little tricky, because I'm not sure how Windows 8.1 works. So lets see how we go.

2 ways to get it in Windows7 -

Way 1:
Right-Click on your Main screen and choose Screen Resolution.
Click on Advanced Settings
Click on Properties
Select Details tab
Change Property drop-down to Hardware Ids
There should be a whole list of values that start with PCI\VEN. What we want is the next bit
For example mine is:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6819&SUBSYS_25531458&REV_00

Can you copy out that line for me.

Way 2:
Go to Control Panel.
Select System
Select Device manager
expand Display adapters
Right-Click on graphics Card
Select Details tab
Change Property drop-down to Hardware Ids
There should be a whole list of values that start with PCI\VEN. What we want is the next bit
For example mine is:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6819&SUBSYS_25531458&REV_00

saved it to my desktop then double clicked it and opened it with winzip and saw the two files in there so I think that means it uncompressed. so I closed out and right clicked on the icon on my desktop and hit copy then went into config and csconfig and hit paste. I tried to open my game and got the picture

Before you post requesting help
Information we need

  1. The -config-log.txt from the Logs folder in the My Documents\EA\The Sims2\ Click "full editor" below to attach a text file.
  2. Your operating System.
  3. What the problem actually is - that will be a picture to show the problem (optional), and accompanying text files that turn up (optional), and a detailed description of what happened, and what you expected to happen.

Sorry, that is a members only option
