I made an account to Leefish specifically for help with this problem. I'm going to pull my hair out. The black shadow boxes underneath sims will not go away. While this is the most pressing issue, it also appears that the smooth edges slider does nothing (Or I am simply being spoiled by later graphics and can't tell). I tried setting my shadows to medium, which changed nothing. I also changed the enablesimshadows setting to false in my Graphics Rules.srg, and that didn't work. The command doesn't work either. Nothing works. Nothing will change. D:

I'm using Windows 8.1, unfortunately. I should also note that I did, indeed, replace both of my graphics rules.srgs (config and csconfig) with the AMD one on here and those are the ones that were edited. My config log should be attached. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I am an idiot. Somehow I missed the LARGE BOLD GREEN LINK to the Graphics Rules Maker, which fixed every problem that I had. My apologies for the useless post. I can't delete it for some reason.

@pookie

Quote:saved it to my desktop then double clicked it and opened it with winzip and saw the two files in there so I think that means it uncompressed. so I closed out and right clicked on the icon on my desktop and hit copy then went into config and csconfig and hit paste. I tried to open my game and got the picture

seeing two files in the zip file does not mean its uncompressed

1. move pookie.zip to Config folder.
2. Right Click on Pookie.zip and choose 'Extract here'.
Two files will come out - graphic rules. sgr and video cards.sgr.
3. copy these files to CSConfig folder.
4. Take a screen print of your Config folder and post it up.

Don't worry about a single 'useless' post, Haylee. At least, it helped you figure out how to fix it, and it may help others later to look for the LARGE BOLD GREEN LINK. So it's not really useless at all Smile
So, all-in-all, pretty well done, for an idiot (your own words Big Grin)

Ok, the line is --> PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0A16&SUBSYS_05F51028&REV_09\3&11583659&0&10

idk if it's a problem but it's from the integrated graphics card, and I use the dedicated graphics card to play...

when i select the shortcut it selects the .exe file, so... :/

Thanks - I can use this to set up a graphic rules and video card for you. That *may* help with the directx.

Hi there Kiri (and LeeFish)!

First of all, thank you for your brilliant post. Once my game is up and running again, my old graphics errors will now be fixed because of you, hopefully!

However - my problem is that now the game won't start up. It's been running just fine for over 45 hours of gameplay but all of a sudden it won't anymore.

I'm playing Sims 2 Ultimate Collection off of origin. I recently updated my display drivers, and updated origin (I had been playing it offline for those 45 hours, so once I went online it updated automatically) and after that I clicked to play as normal and was surprised to find this error message:
"The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff - Failed to initialize Direct3D. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c has been installed on this system. The application will now terminate."

Fixes I attempted:
-I went onto the internet and reinstalled DirectX 9, since people say it can run alongside my currently installed DirectX 11.2 (supposedly). It didn't make a difference.

-I made a game shortcut to the desktop and tried to run it in windowed admin only to see the error message: "The Sims 2 is not installed on this system, or some required files have been deleted. This expansion pack requires The Sims 2 in order to run. Please install The Sims 2 before attempting to run this application." This is understandable, since I only have the sims through origin on this laptop, not the CD installed sims (like on my old laptop).

-I have tried to update all my display drivers again and restart my computer, just in case, but they all say they are back up to date. Game is still showing same error message.

Please help!

I have attached my last configlog from when the game used to run successfully (where you can see it had been using my onboard Intel card, not my dual NVIDIA card which spurred the display driver update in the first place) and also a dxdiag in case you need to see anything there.

Let me know what to do! I am an avid Sims 2 moviemaker (over 2k hours of gameplay on my old laptop, ridiculous I know) and that the game won't run now is heartbreaking.

@Tanglespeck
1. When you updated from Origin - was the language of the game, and the language of the site the same? There has been some difficulties with Origin not downloading all the files when they mismatch.
It's worth checking, but it's unlikely to be the problem.

2. When you updated from Origin - it over-writes the Graphic Rules.sgr and Video Cards.sgr - because it changes every back to default. You will need to get a new one that goes with your Intel card.
The Graphic Rules Maker (the top of the post in Green) will set you up a new one, and that may fix the problem completely. If it doesn't head back here and we'll go through what else the problems could be.

3. Do you delete your cache files from your game before playing? I'm assuming that you'd know about that because of the amount of time you've been playing.
