Sims 2, Graphics and Windows 10

@Miasim It's still not showing up in the config-log. Hmmmm....

Can I just check what you've got - do you have all the disks, or the Ultimate Collection? Do you have a deluxe edition at all?

It looks like you've got the disks from the config-log, and your latest edition is Mansion and Gardens (ep9), but deluxe trump that with an ep99 (or such). So it might be that the problem is that it's in the wrong expansion.

Thanks for doing the 800x600 test for me. That means that from whatever is happening it's from the graphics card rather than the game. If it was the game it would be restricted to the 800x600.

Also - can you tell me if you have dual card.

Actually after doing a little bit of research - it looks like there is a known problem with Nvidia graphics and Windows 10 causing a black screen.
I'm going to see if there is a solution for it yet, but I can see one solution for you if you have dual cards.

@celebkiriedhel I don't have the deluxe edition, I used the old school method with all the disks. I'm not exactly sure how to tell if I have a dual card as I'm not exactly savvy in graphics cards. I don't think I do. When going into the specs of my graphics card this is what it says:

Adapter Information
Chip Type: AMD Radeon Graphics Processor SDI (0x990B)
DAC Type: Internal DAC (400MHz)
Adapter String: AMD Radeon HD 8650G
Bios Information: 44400.bin

I'm not sure if that tells you anything, but I'm hoping it might. Also, what exactly do you mean when you say it's in the wrong expansion?

@Miasim Cool. If you don't have deluxe, then the mansion and gardens spot is the right place.

If you had a deluxe edition, the changes would need to go in the deluxe expansion, even if you had mansions and gardens because it's considered the most recent expansions.

You do have two graphics cards - one is a AMD Radeon HD8650G, one is an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS. So you do have the dual cards problem.
(The NVIDIA card is the one that shows up in the config log for the game)

OK. That's a bit unusual, because most dual graphic cards are with an INTEL and then a Radeon or NVIDIA.

I'm doing a bit of research at the moment to see if I can find a way to fix this for you. I suspect what I'll need to do to get this to work is to bump it back to the Radeon somehow, and then change your graphic rules to the Radeon.

I'm still at a bit of a loss why your Video Cards.sgr isn't showing up as it should.

This is my next idea for you to do -

Go through every expansion that you have, including the base game, and copy the new video cards.sgr into the config and csconfig folders for them. Then get into the game, and send me the new config-log.txt.

Hello Kiri!
Reading the last post I entered in doubt: my last expansion is Mansion and Garden Stuff, but my base game is The Sims 2 Deluxe.
What is considered the latest expansion?, It means I did the wrong thing?, I'm placing the files in the Mansion and Garden folder.

Hi,
I'm having a problem that I don't believe is related to graphics. I just installed the Ultimate Collection, made sims and moved them into an empty lot. Whenever I click on a build mode component such as stairs or driveways, the game crashes and I get the "will now terminate" error. Has anyone experienced this? I'm thinking this might have something to do with Scriptorium, should I use the manual installation method or could it be another issue?

@celebkiriedhel So I've done as you said, I put the videocards file in my config and csconfig folders for all my EPs and SPs. Then ran the game in full screen, went to a neighborhood and exited. I also tried running in windowed mode after just for good measure but still got the black screen, as I was expecting. I've attached my new -config-log.

@Miasim The video card is still showing up as not recognised. I'm really confused now. Give me a day to think about it and I will get back to you.

@ZeusSims Go into the Sims 2 Deluxe and see what the EP number is. If it's higher than 09, then you need to put it there. If however (And I suspect that this is the case), it's less than that, you're ok.

@von777 It's not a graphics issue, you're correct. It's unlikely to be scriptorium because it has nothing to do except point to scripts. What it's likely to be is a corrupt CC or a corrupt Cache.
Corrupt Cache -
Delete the cache's in your My Documents\EA\The Sims 2\ then start up the game, go to an empty lot, try to do the build/stairs where you are crashing.
If you no longer crash - it was a corrupt cache.

Corrupt CC -

remove all your CC stairs, etc from build mode. (Don't worry about scriptorium).
Start up your game and test your build mode on a vacant lot.
If it still crashes - remove all your CC
If it doesn't crash - it was a corrupt build mode CC.

Start up your game and test your build mode on a vacant lot.
If it still crashes - it's not corrupt CC.
If it no longer crashes - then it was corrupt CC and you're going to have to go find it.

The way to do that is generally the half in, half out method. Which is the quickest. Remember to delete the cache's each time.
Half-in/Half-out method.

1. Put half your CC in -
2. Test
3. if it doesn't crash - then that CC is good, put it aside to keep for later.
4. if it does crash - start from step 1 with just that half of the CC.
5. Repeat until you're down to 2 piece of CC.
6. Test the game with just one piece - if it crashes - then there's your corrupt piece. if it doesn't crash, put the other piece in and test. It should crash. And that's the piece you should remove.
7. If it as some point the crashing stops before you get down to 2 pieces of CC, then you don't have a corrupt CC - what you have is too much CC - Start Culling.

@celebkiriedhel Sure thing, thank you. I did just realize that putting the videocards file in the folders fixed my black screen issue when in full screen mode and tabbing out of the game. I have the game running right now in full screen and can tab out and have access to my desktop! This gives me hope as I haven't had this capability before Smile Is it possible that I had to load an actual family/lot in order for the videocards file to become recognized? Before when I tested it I just loaded up a neighborhood and didn't actually go to a lot. I will try running in windowed mode again later to see what happens.

@Miasim upload a config-log.txt - the test of the pudding is in the eating. Smile

Here it is *crosses fingers*! I haven't tried windowed mode yet as I've been engulfed in decorating a house for the last few hours in full screen. Will try soon.

EDIT: Just tried it, windowed mode is still a no-go. I'm getting fed up with this black screen, lol. I also just noticed that I have two -config-log.txt files in my Logs folder now. Is this normal? I've attached the other one as well. I'm thinking that the AMELIAS-PC-config-log.txt is the new one because it says it was generated on 11/12/15 and the other one was generated 7/27/11. Also, the info under "Graphics device info" is completely different... I'm confused. Maybe you can make some sense of this.
