Hey Kiri! I'm getting a new laptop fairly soon but I want to play The Sims 2 on my 'older' one while I wait. However, it is running fairly slowly and I'm not sure why.
Here is my PC config log:
Please help if you can! One thing I did notice was that it says I have 1024mb memory but my laptop has 4gb.
Anyway, don't worry if you can't fix it as i'm getting a new one soon. Thank you!

Your Graphic Rules looks pretty good.
I wouldn't worry about the 1G RAM, it uses more than that. Your CPU is 2095MHz - How many cores do you have? There's a likelihood that if you have more than 2 cores, that you're getting a lag from that. Unfortunately because Sims 2 is an old game it doesn't cope with things being too fast.
Iif you have more than 2 cores, try doing this -
Change your Sims2 shortcut target to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSBin\Sims2Launcher.exe" -w -CPUCount:2
Also make sure that your most recent .exe is set to admin, and compatibility is set 1 back. So Windows 10 - Windows 8.
Other things that can cause lag -
1. lots of CC.
2. A PC that needs defragging.
3. Lots of other things running at the same time.

Thanks a lot! I do indeed have 4 cores, and I have tried changing it to 1 core. However.. I have not tried using 2 cores, as you suggested.
Even if this doesn't work, Kiri, don't worry about it anyway as I'm getting a shiny new laptop soon! Thank you!

I installed the files as you recommended but still received the same message in my log files. I did some poking around in the same file on my Sims 4 installation and copied the line related to my video card into the "Video Cards.sgr" file just after the entry for the GTX 460
I also edited the setting $High portion of the "option ScreenModeResolution" section in the "Graphics Rules.sgr" file to set the max width and height to match my screen.
Hope this helps others...
Code:
card 0x1401 "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960"

Code:
setting $High
uintProp maxResWidth 1680
uintProp maxResHeight 1050
uintProp defaultResWidth 1024
uintProp defaultResHeight 768
Hope this helps others...

Did you mean that I should put that text into the The Sims 2 UC Shortcut? If so, I did do that and it didn't work.
If you can't think of anything else as I said, don't worry

So I'm not sure if I have other problems but so far my issue is that I can't see bumpmaps. I went though the old tutorials to change the graphics rules but they don't show up in the game or in bodyshop even if I put the cheat codes in.
I'm hoping someone can help me with this here.
And is there a thread for getting help with SIMPE not showing all the expansions? I have the ultimate collection and went though some of the workarounds for that but nothing seems to be working there either so I'm not even sure anymore
Also thank you for any help you can give me

@tabbs Hi Tabbs,
What are you testing on whether you see bump maps or not. Looking at your graphic rules - you've got bump mapping on. I know that the bump-mapping on the moroccan fence from Base game has had it's bump mapping broken so it doesn't show either way. There is an object that I think Numenor made for bump map testing - you can tell really quickly because if it has bump maps working the bump map says 'Bump'.

Ignore everything that is said prior to that - what you're doing is checking if it's enabled or not.
The only other thing that jumps out at me is that you have a texture memory of 128Mb which seems a bit low. However, if you've used the Graphic Rules Maker - then that would be the reason it's set to that. I don't know whether that impacts bump maps, because there is only one place that sets bump maps and it's based on the MaterialDetail field. Yours is set to 3 (which equals high) which sets bump mapping on.

It's mostly clothing I'm trying to recolor etc. I know that some of the base game undies are supposed to bump out at you but mine aren't. So I have tested in bodyshop and in game but I can't get it to work. Should I change the texture memory number? And to what should I change it?
I will test the bump map texture thingy just to make sure
**Update: I got it to work: First I put 256 for my memory and then I created a startup.cheat file, and for some reason this works in Bodyshop, I still need to test it in the game but so far so good
Thank you, because if you hadn't mentioned the texture memory bit, I probably wouldn't be seeing the bumpmap - YAY I'm so excited
