Sims 2, Graphics and Windows 10

@tabbs Oh good! Usually with my cards I set them up to around 1G (well 1.7G because that's what mine was) and we don't have this problem. I will remember this for the next time it comes up.

It doesn't seem to be working... what I did was since I run the game from Origin, I clicked properties (from Origin) and added -w and -CPUCount:2.
Maybe this laptop is too slow to be running it?

@Skoorl Ahh.... I'm not too sure that they would work with running from origin. So there may be that. I don't have origin, so it's a bit different for me. Your system is definitely fast enough to play Sims 2 on high res - 4 Cores has way more oomph than 1or2 and according to the graphic rules you only need 3000MHz for hi res.

We've got a combination problem here - 1. Windows 10 which is ok but can be a bit of a dog to work out what can and can't be done. And 2. Ultimate Collection which does things slightly differently to the DVD games which breaks quite a few things (SimPE for example) without a fair bit of shifting around.

Are you able to play Sims without going through Origin?

@celebkiriedhel

I'm pretty sure I can, I've done it before. And also I think origin recognized the commands I put in because the game did start windowed. Here is some more information from when I played earlier: It's not too bad once the game is running and i'm on live mode, however loading screens take forever! Also in windowed mode I notice that during the loading screens it stops responding for a few seconds before resuming again. Then again, it could very well be that i'm on Windows 10. Although I had the same problem when I was on Windows 8 and 8.1 before I upgraded.

About adding the CPU count. I'm on Windows 10 and can't change the name of the target in my shortcuts. I have the Ultimate Collection on Origin. Can someone please help me gain access to changing the target name?

I'm currently using windows 10 but i'm still facing the same problem as i did when i was using windows 8.1 a month ago.

When i try playing the sims 2, it works fine using my intel® HD graphics family (i think that's the right name)
but when i try to use my NVidia geforce gtx 860 m an error message would appear, saying Direct3d error : E_invalidarg!
I've tried the fixes from your other topic like the graphics rule.sgr and the forcing it to use nvidia by adjusting the control panel settings and running it in admin. but nothing works :/

i hope you can help me, thanks for your time... Smile

Graphics Card - INTEL - Texture Problem

PROBLEM - Lagging Game even though you have an awesome CPU.
Thanks to tylersada We have a solution!

From their post:

"Thought I would mention something I have found out. My game was running slow, lagging, etc. I thought it was all my piece of stuff Intel HD graphics. I was trolling and came upon an article that the Sims 2 and Sim City 4 were launched at a time that multiple CPU's were non-existent or uncommon, therefore were mostly unsupported. They advised to right click on the shortcut and add -CPUCount:1 to the Target.

This is how it looks on my shortcut (I also run windowed mode therefore I have -w)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSBin\Sims2Launcher.exe" -w -CPUCount:1

Oh no! After having installed Windows 10 in last August, I had to remove everything on my main PC in October and as a consequence, I had Windows 8.1 back on my computer. But today, I reinstalled Windows 10, and after doing what I quoted just above (i.e. downloading the Graphic Rules file, modifying it... as well as updating my graphic card drivers through GeForce Experience), well, after doing all this, it still doesn't work...

Can anyone help me please? I'm sorry to have (again) messed things up on my computer... Confused Fortunately, I have got a small laptop on which Windows 8.1 is still installed (as well as The Sims 2), and I will be able to upload my lot created for Fishmas... Smile

Mmh, I need to create a text file with all the new instructions that anyone will give me later, that I will keep in a small corner of one of my USB key, in case...

Well, @poisson, the way to salvation begins with confession. You must admit to the error of your ways, and submit the current -config-log.txt file before Kiri or anyone else can take action to save your simming soul! Angel
