...I'm not a fan of the sparklies either - unless it's a gemstone your talkin' about. (Probly cuz lag can bother my machine)
The 'T' is for my last name, the CJD is for Catherine's Jewelry Design. Which is how I make the money I need to be able to stay home, home-school my "special" daughter and play sims all day. LOL! (...which is probably why I build more than actually play, building can be done in bits and pieces; when I play, I tend to get sucked in too deep - 5 hours later I realize I missed the 3:00 meds. Oops!) Need any gifties?

Gifties? Nah, not till December, at least. But thanks anyway.
And don't we all get sucked into our games at some point? "Well, it's past 9 PM, so I should probably go to bed soon. Just have to plunk down these beds for the new dorm...okay, that doesn't look right, so erase that wall...new wallpaper...I think I could add a third floor and make a few more rooms, but I'll have to move those stairs a few tiles that way...okay, now some more dorm doors...wood paneling for the hall...some of those tropical-looking wallpapers for the rooms...now the roof...okay, changelotzoning dorm, Save, exit to the neighborhood, Package...plunk a duplicate dorm lot down in Sim State University. Now to create some guinea pigs to make sure the dorm works. Okay, the Cow Mascot just reminded me to move the sprinkler directly over the fireplace so he can't get to it...maybe I should have left some more space in the second floor dayroom in case the students wanted to buy a pool table. And I just ran out of room in the compost bin, so clearly I'll need more compost bins...why's my living room so bright now? Oh. Sunlight is coming through my windows. Because it's morning. I did it again, didn't I?"

I like the sparkle on the food, I don't think it causes lag, at least that I have noticed, on my computer. I do't have issues with snow either, I just don't like it so I have it modded out.
I don't spend all that much time building, I do build as I don't download people's houses or community lots, except I did download The Apple Store and all of the CC that goes with it, but well I could not resist that one. Anyway I do build, usually I remodel my Sim's house or I build a new from scratch for them, I built a Night Club that I am very fond of and use as my go to destination Downtown and I built a Casino, and a "Social" Club and a Starbucks and a Movie Theater, Flower Shop, etc., but otherwise I just remodel an existing Community Lot to suit me. I spend most of my time playing, I play for few hours then I quit and make a backup. I have two backups at all times, more if I was dig into the automatic backups my Mac makes for me.

That's the difference in processing power between machines. Older PCs and systems with weaker graphics cards, have more trouble handling the sprites involved in both sparkled food and snow. Such systems also have a hard time dealing with the auras of high-level witches; whenever one appears at a comm lot (everyone say "My Muse II Art Studio" now), the game freezes for anywhere up to two minutes in very bad cases!
Modern systems simply power through... You won't notice a thing!
Lag isn't an issue on my system, either. I just don't need the super foods. Because what happens to it? A sparkly meal could perhaps feed four sims, where a normal meal of the same type might be slightly more than enough for one. But if you (the player) don't make them take advantage of that, most sims will just clean up those plates, flushing the food through the sink, or dumping it in the garbage bin. So effectively it's just a funny little mechanic that ultimately serves no purpose except to make you micro-manage more.
So sims are satisfied sooner while eating... some people actually don't want that because they LIKE having their sims sit together at the dinner table, interacting socially with each other. I don't care too much about that, but I can surely understand the people who would want the sparkles removed for just THAT reason.

I think of it as just another incentive to get out of credit card debt, so I can buy a computer that isn't an Acer, so I can swap out the hard drives, haul the rest of this piece-of-schnitzel Acer to the big tree stump outside and take a lumber axe to the motherboard. Screaming about revenge and years of frustration and torment may be optional, but I'll likely indulge in it.

I just keep dreaming that little dream.

Sparkly food is very handy for rescuing Sims from the threat of starvation, and the way that so many of those Bon Voyage tours go when you pick the wrong side of the coin, it's no wonder I'm starting to build more vacation lots with stoves, refrigerators and fishing ponds, even the campgrounds!
The micromanaging's not that bad, though. "Oh, I left you alone for five seconds and you got fat off of sparkly food. How are your Needs? Okay, nothing red...Hunger's bright green and full, of course. So let me just stick you [with some yoga exercises/in the swimming pool/on the benchpress/on the treadmill/in the ElectroDanceSphere] while I wander off and take care of other stuff. You'd better not be fat by the time I get back!"

But then, you can always make up for that by giving them social time in front of the TV, around the pool table, around the bubble machine, in the hot tub...even just sitting them in chairs or on sofas and letting them do nothing but run their mouths works for a little while. Chairs and sofas with low Comfort value mean that Sims will spend more time sitting on them before their Comfort's maxed and they get up to do something else, so don't throw out those cheap lawn chairs just yet.
That reason is also why I place burnt food in the fridge as leftovers. Not only do Sims not race through overcooked meals, they actually seem to spend a little extra time at the table with all their retching and gagging. "Okay, you two need to talk, but you're both hungry. Here, eat some delicious charcoal while you two build your Relationships!"

@Pizzatron-9000 It's clear we see different things...
Hahahahaha, that was amusing! Cruel, most certainly. But amusing nonetheless.
When I'm talking about micromanaging, I'm not specifically referring to sims overeating to the point where they need excercise. Most of my sims are too well-behaved to go there. No, I'm seeing how they hardly ever store left-overs, but mostly just throw stuff away. With normal food, I don't mind too much. But if that happened with sparkly food, it frustrated me immensely. Seems they will not appreciate the difference. So why would I indulge them?
I can understand that, if you let your sims starve until their hunger is deep in the red, no more than two sims can be fed with a sparkly meal. But to me that means that you're more cruel to your sims than I am to mine. I *never* let it come to any of my sims' motives ending up so deep in the red, that sparkly food is required to save their lives. My sims eat at least one completely satisfying meal each day, and if their activities cause them to cross into the orange/yellow zone, they will get a snack or two inbetween. So, before I wrote that mod, when I still had sparkly food, four sims could be fed from one proper meal (I'm not talking a lunch meat sandwich here), and sometimes there would still be a sparkle left for a child to lick the plate.
Therefor, no more sparkly food. My sims can clearly live long happy lives without it, so it isn't essential.
Yeah, it's clear to me, we play completely different games. I can see your points, and I can accept that you see them that way from your perspective. I just cannot imagine getting to the point where I'd feel the same way.
I hope that Kris Kringle or some other fairy gift-father will grant oyu a better system soon, so you can experience totally lag-free witch-transitions... Before, when I had a lag-prone system, I always knew when a witch was coming, because my game would freeze for 20 (good) to 30 (evil) seconds before they actually appeared. Nowadays, whenever they show up, it's a total surprise to me! Absolutely wonderful!

It's also a bit annoying when you stop a college Sim from finishing a plate of sparkly food and a Cafeteria Worker immediately tries to take it and run it to the dishwasher, even if your Sim only took a few bites out of it. Fortunately, interrupting the cafeteria worker with a social interaction works wonders for disrupting their concentration, allowing you to grab the leftover sparkly food and walk it to the fridge unhindered.
My Sims usually don't get anywhere close to starvation during their day-to-day affairs (though one does slip through the cracks every blue moon). But like I said, it's mostly the bad results of vacation tours that do that to them. Like the cheap Mountain tour where your Sims run into a bunch of beavers. Those little buggers always seem to steal their pack food and plunge their Hunger into deep red. I'll send my Sims on tours just to fill Wants, to complete Vacation Mementos and/or to take a shot at getting a map to a secret location without having to dig holes and break water pipes to get it, but if a tour results in a Chance Card, I'm becoming more and more likely to just click Ignore. It seems like the rewards from winning a tour's Chance Card are rarely good enough to justify the risks, especially if your Sim's skills are all high. An extra point of Logic isn't much of a reward when your Sim's Logic is already at 10, right?
And yes, turning around to see a High Witch on your lot and be pleasantly surprised by her appearance would be nice. At least I get to be pleasantly surprised by the High Vampires, though. Those guys just sneak right in, and you don't even realize it at first. "Okay, who wants espresso? Let's just go down to the barrista and Count Zion! What are you doing here?"
