So I posted this a few days ago but then this site went down so I guess it didn't actually post. About a year or so ago I tried playing The Sims 2 on my computer and of course realized it didn't work on Windows 10 and wen through the whole process of getting it to work by watching videos and downloading the 4g patch and all that. Now I have a new gaming PC and wanted to play some Sims 2 again so I installed all the expansion packs, watched this video called "A Complete Guide on how to Fix & Optimize The Sims 2 on Windows 10/11" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iWlvY4NH6M and followed the steps and my game still will not work.

I am have the physical discs of the game so that's how I installed it. I have The sims 2 and the expansion packs University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons and Bon Voyage. I then tried to install the Home and Garden stuff pack online so I could install the Lazy Duchess mod https://lazyduchess.tumblr.com/post/6319...on-garden. (EDIT: I installed the George thing too, I forgot to say that).

When I try to start the game either by using the Bon Voyage disc or by clicking on the garden and mansion icon I get the Sims Launcher and then a black screen and then a window with a red x and no text, just an okay button. (I included a picture of it). Please someone help me play The Sims 2 again!

Hi there,
I see a few issues that maybe cleaning them up will help?

1 - Your card is not listed in the GPU database. GRM will fix that for you, just click "add"
2 - The 4GB patch did not stick. Please redo the patch AFTER running the GRM.

If the above doesn't fix it - have you tried shinki's guide for using disk installs? https://shinki26.tumblr.com/post/7200142...-guide-for

AND, an even more important question in my humble opinion... why are you insisting on using the disks? It is much easier (and supported) to use Osab's Starter Pack: https://ts2.crd.co/

Good luck! Smile

GRM is the Graphics ruler thing right? I'll try doing that again and then the patch, thanks!

I use the discs because...I have them, lol. And because before there wasn't another way to get all the Sims games before, I didn't know about Osab's Starter pack.

EDIT: It worked! The Mansion & Garden stuff pack isn't there but I don't think I care too much about that and I'm kind of worried that if I try to apply that it will make my game stop working again. Thanks so much for your help Catherine!

I can't Find The Sims Body Shop though and I added my CC and it doesn't show in game.

Yes - GRM is GraphicsRulesMaker: https://www.simsnetwork.com/tools/graphics-rules-maker

It worked? What worked - your disc install? or Osab's Starter pack?
If you used Osab's (it is the same as the Ultimate Collection that EA gave away for free through their Origin app) ...then BodyShop will be found in the Fun with Pets folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\CSBin\TS2BodyShop

Do not add any CC/Mods until you are sure everything is working!

Another problem a lot of people have is with OneDrive. If you have Windows 11, then you have OneDrive, and it will install things in the wrong place. You need to make sure it is disabled.

Good luck!

It did work with my discs.

I have all the expansion packs on there and it opens and works just fine. My issue now is I want all my CC and my characters from my previous gameplay but my CC is not showing up in my game at all.

I made sure to put all those files on my C drive not on One Drive and in my Documents folder in EAGames and in The Sims 2.

I made sure that in the game CC is enabled.

C:\Users\*****\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

(I just starred out where my name was)

I also can't find The Sims Body Shop anywhere.

The BodyShop exe is not in your Documents folder.
It is back in the ProgramFiles... (where the game is installed.)
It will be in the SP9 folder. (Which is M&G, but the UC sticks M&G under Pets. I don't think a disc install will be set up like that?)

Most of your CC/mods should go in the documents/Downloads folder. (Unless instructed otherwise.)
Did you check to see if there is a duplicate documents location under another user name? Some computers do that, dunno why!
I can't think of any other reason for CC to not 'show up'. If CC is enabled, and it's in the correct Downloads folder, it should be in your game.

I know The Body Shop should be where the other games are but I can't find it anywhere. Is there a way to download it separately?

Ya I had a bunch of CC downloaded previously and I put in on an external drive and then transferred it to the computer I'm using now but it doesn't show at all! I still have One Drive on my computer because I need it since I often do things on my laptop as well as my computer and need to share things between them but I made sure the CC was in the Documents folder found through the C drive.

EDIT: I found The Body Shop, now let's see if it works...

The in Sims 2 Pets wouldn't open but the one in Bon Voyage opened but then crashed

UPDATE: I had to do the Graphic Rules Maker thing with the Body Shop and now it opened without crashing! I still don't know why my CC won't show but hey...I'm slowly making progress on fixing things, lol

I also tried unlinking OneDrive but that didn't help with the CC

Even though I unlinked OneDrive and deleted the Sims 2 folder in Documents that was there....it came back.

I was looking online and something said to open The Body Shop because it will make a Sims 2 folder and to move the CC there...well it made one.... in ONEDRIVE! How!? I unlinked it and everything!!!

So now I'm going to put my CC in the OneDrive Sims folder and see how that goes.

UPDATE: So I put a couple things in the OneDrive downloads folder to see if it would show up in game...and it did. So now the question is, how do I get the game to stop using OneDrive and use the Document folder that is on my C drive? I've been told Onedrive can mess up save files on The Sims 2.

In the Pets folder, there should be another folder for Mansion & Garden stuff, maybe named SP9 or EP9. The Body Shop in THAT folder is the only one you should be using.
